Reloading Presses

A reloading press is a device that helps to provide mechanical leverage to reload the ammunition. The press would hold the dies that will reform, prime and reload the shells. Most of these reloading presses are supposed to be self-contained. They are accompanied by all the dies, bushings, charge bars, and other accessories are used to load one gauge of shot shells. Most basic reloading presses would normally have powder and shot reservoirs that allow the operator to perform each step one-by-one to reload a shell.

These type of inexpensive reloading machines have been designed to reload just one gauge of shell. In order to reload a 12 gauge and a 20 gauge shell, you must buy a 12 gauge and a 20 gauge press. There are expensive machines that have dies that are designed for the various gauges. It is better to buy an inexpensive separate press for each guage, if you are going to do a lot of shot shell reloading using different guage shells, depending how much you plan to reload instead f just changing the dies.

You will find that plastic cases are much more durable than the paper hulls as you can find that the paper hulls can only be reloaded once or twice. Before reloading shotgun shells, you should first inspect the fired hulls to make sure that the shell is totally empty. You should inspect the case mouth mainly for damage or splitting. You should also inspect the brass head to see if there are separation or cracks. If the cases are not prefect then they should be thrown away.

It would take approximately seven press handle pulls to transform a loaded shell from a fired hull. This would resize the case, remove the fired primer, prime the shell, drop a powder charge, seat the wad, drop the shot, start the new crimp and then complete the crimp. You should make sure to complete each step on each single shell before starting on the next shell. You should just move from station to station on your reloading press. You should also purchase a reloading manual specifically for shot shells and follow all the instructions in order to follow safe reloading guidelines.

It is always wise to go in for the purchase of an inexpensive reloading bench to hold your press. Many of the weekend shooters do find shot shell reloading a relaxing, money-saving, hobby.
